White vinegar can be used on its own as a cleaner, but infused it is more effective. There are so many different things you could choose to infuse it with. For this recipe I have infused the vinegar with used lemon peels that I saved from cooking. Use what you have on hand already, or can forage to make it cheaper! Below is a list of other things you could infuse your homemade natural, non-toxic cleaning spray with....

  • Lavender

  • Pine Needles

  • Grapefruit peels

  • Orange Peels

  • Lime peels

  • Cinnamon Sticks

  • Whole Cloves

  • Eucalyptus Leaves

  • Or whatever Herbs you have on hand!

Homemade Natural, Non-Toxic Cleaning Spray

Ingredients: White Vinegar, Used Lemon Peels (leftover from cooking), Essential oil of choice (totally optional)

Supplies: A jar to soak vinegar & lemon in, Spray bottle (this can be a reused one from store bought cleaner, it doesn't have to be a fancy glass one)

Directions: Put lemon peels and vinegar in an old jar, leave to soak for about 2 weeks or so...Simply strain, dilute the mixture to 1 parts vinegar to 2 parts water, add essential oils of choice, and you're ready to clean!

Essential Oils?

The use of essential oil is optional. The citric acid in lemon is naturally antibacterial and antiseptic, but you can add essential oils for an extra boost. The smell of the vinegar solution will evaporate without essential oils, so it makes the fresh smell last longer. Our favourites are lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, and peppermint. Clove is great for cleaning mould.
